Ami Alexandre Mattiussi
Ami Paris was founded in 2011 in Paris by Alexandre Mattiussi, who had previously worked as a menswear designer at Dior Homme under Hedi Slimane, Givenchy, and Marc Jacobs before launching his eponymous line. The brand's foundational thesis was specific and softly French-everyday: produce well-cut, easy, French-male-friend wardrobe pieces (the shirt, the trouser, the sweater, the suit) at a price tier between Sandro and Saint Laurent, with deliberate restraint on logo and graphic noise.
The Ami Paris vocabulary settled around several recognisable items: the Ami de Coeur red-heart-with-A logo intarsia knit (the brand's defining product, now in countless seasonal iterations), the soft-shouldered single-breasted blazer, the boxy oversized shirt, and a colour palette anchored to navy, off-white, soft pink, camel, and ecru. The brand's growth has been substantial — annual revenue reportedly crossed €300M in 2023, with the brand operating about 60 directly-operated stores by year-end 2024.
Ami Paris is majority-owned by private equity firm Sequoia Capital China (Sequoia BridgePath, now HongShan) since 2021, with Mattiussi retaining a significant minority stake and continuing as creative director. The brand operates flagships in Paris (Rue de Grenelle, Boulevard Saint-Germain, Place des Victoires), London (Conduit Street, Mayfair), New York (Mercer Street, Soho), Tokyo (Aoyama, Ginza), Seoul, Shanghai, Hong Kong. Few French houses of the 2010s have grown so quickly while maintaining the original creative-director vocabulary.
