Dickies
Dickies was founded in 1922 in Bryan, Texas by C. N. Williamson and E. E. 'Colonel' Dickie as a small American workwear manufacturer specifically focused on producing technically-engineered cotton-duck workwear for the broader Texas-and-Southwest-American agricultural-and-industrial-labour community. The brand has been one of the longest-continuously-operating American workwear brands — over 100 years of continuous operation — and one of the defining global American-workwear-heritage brands.
The Dickies vocabulary settled around several specific products: the iconic Dickies 874 Original work-pant (the brand's defining 1967-pattern product, still in production with the original cotton-polyester twill construction), the Dickies Eisenhower work-jacket programme, the Dickies coverall and bib-overall programmes, various heavyweight cotton-duck and cotton-twill workwear-derived variations, the iconic Dickies × broader streetwear-revival collaboration product (the brand has been continuously focused on streetwear-luxury collaboration since the 2010s), and a colour palette anchored to washed-tan, washed-navy, oxblood, military-olive, ecru, plus the brand's recurring use of natural-undyed cotton and the iconic American-workwear-aesthetic colour combinations.
Dickies is owned by VF Corporation (NYSE: VFC), the publicly-listed American apparel conglomerate that also owns The North Face, Vans, Timberland, Supreme, and the broader VF portfolio. The brand operates approximately 1,000 retail-and-wholesale points-of-distribution globally — with particularly strong representation in the US, Mexico, Japan, and the broader streetwear-revival specialty retailer network. The brand has done extensive contemporary collaborations including Dickies × Carhartt WIP, Dickies × WACKO MARIA, Dickies × Slam Jam, Dickies × Stüssy, Dickies × Pleasures, Dickies × Born x Raised, and dozens of others. The Dickies 874 has been one of the defining products of American workwear heritage.
