La Sportiva
La Sportiva was founded in 1928 in Val di Fiemme, in the Dolomites of Northern Italy, by Narciso Delladio as a small workshop producing leather boots and shoes for the loggers, hunters, and mountaineers operating in the Dolomite range. The brand's foundational thesis was specific and survival-driven: produce hand-built, fully-resoleable mountain footwear engineered for the literal-survival conditions of Alpine work and climbing, with the Val di Fiemme workshop continuing to anchor manufacturing for almost 100 years.
The La Sportiva vocabulary settled around several specific footwear categories: the iconic Nepal Cube GTX (a high-altitude mountaineering boot widely-regarded as one of the defining 8,000-metre-peak boots of the post-2000 era), the Solution Comp (the brand's defining rock-climbing shoe, with the iconic P3 platform-and-rand construction that became standard in competitive climbing), the Bushido trail-running shoe, the TX series approach shoes, and a range of ski-mountaineering and high-altitude expedition boots. The brand has supplied the Italian national mountaineering teams, the Italian national ski-mountaineering team, and the world-record-setting climbers of the 2010s-2020s including Adam Ondra, Margo Hayes, Janja Garnbret, and Kilian Jornet.
La Sportiva remains independent and family-controlled by the Delladio family through three generations (Lorenzo Delladio, the grandson of the founder Narciso, is the current chairman). The brand operates flagship retail at the historic Val di Fiemme factory complex plus international flagships in Chamonix, Boulder Colorado, Salt Lake City, Tokyo (Daikanyama), and Seoul, plus extensive wholesale through climbing-and-mountaineering specialty retailers globally including REI, Backcountry, the major European outdoor retailers, and the Japanese mountain-specialty distribution network. Few Italian heritage outdoor brands have remained so continuously family-controlled and craft-anchored across 95+ years.
