Marine Serre was born in 1991 in Corrèze, France and trained at La Cambre in Brussels — the same Belgian school that produced Olivier Theyskens and Anthony Vaccarello. She graduated in 2016 and was hired as a designer at Maison Margiela, Dior, and Balenciaga in quick succession; in 2017 her LVMH Prize-winning graduate collection (which gave her €300,000 and a one-year mentoring program) prompted her to launch her own label at age 25. The brand's signature is the crescent-moon all-over print and the regenerated-textile aesthetic: over 50% of Marine Serre's product is made from reused fabric (deadstock, vintage scarves, athletic merchandise, secondhand silk). The brand splits its collections into 'Cores' (essentials made from new fabric) and 'Hybrids' (reconstructed pieces). The crescent-moon catsuits and athletic-fabric assemblages have been worn by Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Dua Lipa, and Mary J. Blige. Marine Serre is independent and headquartered in Paris with a manufacturing arm in Saint-Denis, where reused fabric is cleaned, sorted, and reassembled. Serre's commitment to circular fashion is unusually deep — she has refused multiple traditional luxury group acquisitions. The brand's commercial scale is modest by major-house standards but its critical and editorial weight has been disproportionately large for nearly a decade.
