Oliver Spencer
Oliver Spencer was founded in 2002 in London by British designer Oliver Spencer, who had previously co-founded the menswear-and-women's footwear brand Favourbrook with John Coghlan in the late 1980s. The brand's foundational thesis was specific: produce a London menswear vocabulary at the intersection of British heritage tailoring (Savile Row construction craft, hand-finished detail, traditional British fabric mills) and contemporary casual menswear proportions — a deliberately accessible 'modern-British-gentleman' wardrobe at a £150-£600 price tier.
The Oliver Spencer vocabulary settled around several recurring elements: soft-shouldered Italian-and-British-mill wool blazers with hand-finished detail, washed-cotton workshirts and button-downs in deliberately understated colour combinations, lightweight wool tailored trousers, the brand's iconic 'Eltham' jacket (a casual unstructured blazer that has been the defining year-round product), British-knitwear-mill cashmere-and-Merino pullovers, and a colour palette anchored to navy, ecru, sage, oxblood, washed-pink, and the brand's recurring use of bottle-green and burgundy. The brand presents at London Men's Fashion Week and has been one of the more consistent presences on the British menswear calendar.
The brand is independent and held by Spencer. Oliver Spencer operates flagship retail in London (Lamb's Conduit Street — the brand's home store; Marylebone; Notting Hill; Spitalfields; Soho), plus international wholesale through MR PORTER, MATCHES, the Beams Plus network in Japan, Holt Renfrew, and a curated set of British-and-European luxury menswear specialty retailers. The brand has been one of the defining post-2002 British 'modern-tailored-casual' menswear brands, with the deliberately accessible price tier specifically anchoring the brand inside the broader British-everyday-menswear conversation.
