Peak Performance

Founded
1986
Founder
Stefan Engström, Peter Blom, Christer Mårtensson
Peak Performance was founded in 1986 in Åre, Sweden by Stefan Engström, Peter Blom, and Christer Mårtensson as a small Swedish-anchored ski-and-outdoor apparel brand specifically focused on producing technically-engineered alpine outerwear for the Scandinavian ski-and-mountaineering community. The brand's foundational thesis was specific and technically driven: produce ski-and-mountaineering gear engineered for the harsh Scandinavian winter conditions, using technical-fabric construction at the level of competitive-ski-team performance specifications. The Peak Performance vocabulary settled around several specific products: technical Gore-Tex shell ski jackets and pants, down-insulated alpine parkas, technical mid-layer fleece pullovers, the brand's iconic Heli Alpine series of high-mountain expedition shells, the contemporary Peak Performance Original heritage-revival line, and a colour palette anchored to alpine-blue, military-olive, washed-charcoal, ecru, oxblood, and the brand's recurring use of saturated red-and-yellow safety colour combinations. The brand has supplied the Swedish national alpine ski team, the Norwegian national cross-country ski team, and various other Scandinavian competitive-ski programmes. Peak Performance was acquired by Amer Sports (the Finnish sports conglomerate that also owns Arc'teryx, Salomon, and Wilson) in 2005, then sold to IC Group in 2011, then sold to Tecnica Group (the Italian outdoor-and-ski conglomerate) in 2018. The brand operates approximately 100 retail stores globally — anchored to flagships in Åre (the brand's home), Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Berlin, Munich, Tokyo, Seoul, plus international wholesale through the major ski-and-outdoor specialty retailers in Europe, Asia, and North America. The brand has been one of the defining post-1986 Scandinavian-anchored technical-ski-outerwear brands, with a particularly strong position in the Scandinavian-mountain-resort luxury-customer base.
