Calling all fashion collectors, archive enthusiasts and Margiela stans, Martin Margiela is giving fans an unprecedented glimpse into his world. In a historic new auction organized by Maurice Auction in Paris, in collaboration with Kerry Taylor Auctions, the elusive designer is releasing more than 200 pieces from his personal archive, spanning from 1984 to 2008.

The collection includes photographs, drawings and objects that trace the designer's creative journey, from his early work in Antwerp to his departure from his eponymous label. "After many years of moving archival material from place to place," Margiela shared, "I felt it was time to let go of a part of my fashion memorabilia."

The sale marks a first in fashion history, with Margiela becoming the first living designer to directly collaborate with an auction house to offer pieces from his personal archive. According to auctioneer Salomé Pirson, the collection reveals not only the designer's groundbreaking approach to clothing, but also his broader reflections on humanity and creativity.

Adding a deeply personal layer to the sale is the inclusion of around 60 Hermès pieces from the wardrobe of Margiela's late mother, Léa Bouchet. Gifted during his tenure at Hermès between 1997 and 2003, the clothing, bags and accessories reflect both his exceptional craftsmanship and their close relationship.

Most of the items have never been publicly displayed before, making the auction a rare opportunity to experience the legacy of one of fashion's most influential and enigmatic designers.

The exhibition is on view from July 4 to 8 at Rue de la Fontaine au Roi in Paris, with the auction taking place on July 9. Head to the Maurice Auction website to reserve a spot and find out more about the collections.
