Art and algorithms are two words that don’t often exist in the same sentence as art traditionally comes to life with a human touch while algorithms are born on digital platforms. This year at Milan Design Week, however, Numero Cromatico brought the mediums closer together.
In partnership with glo, the creative collective revealed a new art installation at Palazzo Moscova that responded to the design fair’s 2026 theme, Be the Project through art, psychology and technology. Aligning with its past visual works – which question modern constructs in society – the respective installation, titled Y.O.U Your Own Universe, harnessed AI to generate phrases which were layered and projected across the walls of the courtyard in a wraparound digital landscape.
An integral part of the installation is audience participation. Throughout the duration of the exhibition, visitors were invited to interact with the central circular screen with prompts and messages about the future. These were combined to create a type of shared language between participants and technology in what Numero Cromatico calls “an algorithmic oracle.”
Among reflections and luminous surfaces, the innovative glo Hilo and glo Hilo Plus devices emerged, offering a personalized user experience. This vision was perfectly mirrored in Numero Cromatico’s installation, designed to resonate with each consumer.
Delving into the deeper message behind the installation, the collective shares, “The artwork does not offer definitive answers or single interpretations. The phrases emerge as open possibilities, sometimes enigmatic, never fully translatable. This very inexpressibility becomes the driver of a projective reaction: each visitor is invited to complete the meaning through their own experience, to identify or distance themselves, to build relationships.”
On the glo opening night, Hypebeast joined Milan Design Week attendees to discover the installation in the Brera District. As well as pushing the boundaries of futuristic art, the showcase successfully forged connections between guests, with the collective experience encouraging new conversations on digital-led design.
