The Nike SB Dunk has never shied away from playful storytelling, and an upcoming special release of the Dunk Low “Donut” proves exactly why. For an early launch of the sneaker, Rukus is putting its own spin on the release through exclusive packaging and accessories inspired by a local tradition that dates back more than two decades.
The concept centers around the number “103,” a figure that has become synonymous with the shop since it first opened its doors in 2000. After learning that “103” served as a local police code for a disturbance or ruckus, the shop adopted it as part of its identity, incorporating it into skate videos, apparel, social media, and countless projects over the years. Drawing from the longstanding stereotype linking police officers with donuts and coffee, the shop used the release as an opportunity to bring its “103” story to life, partnering with Baton Rouge institution Mary Lee Donuts for some local flavor.
The Dunk itself features two tones of pink in patent leather, mirror the glossy frosting that usually sits atop the freshly cooked dough. Rukus even created a custom shoe-box inspired by packaging typically used for a dozen donuts and a collaborative tee with Mary Lee Donuts.
The special release of the Nike Dunk Low “Donut” launches on June 20th at 1 PM local time, followed by an online drop at 4 PM on Rukus’ online store. These are not a collaboration, so you can expect this release at other retailers and Nike.com later this year.
