Last year, Monitor Audio announced the seventh generation of its Bronze Series, its most affordable loudspeaker range. Consisting of five different models, the company claimed the range aimed to set “a new benchmark for entry-level performance.”

Now, after more than a decade, the British audio maker is introducing a new and improved version of its Radius series, its most compact speaker range. The previous range, the Radius 3G, was released in 2013.

Monitor Audio is calling the fourth generation of its Radius range a “comprehensive reinvention of one of the brand’s most celebrated compact speaker ranges.”

Like the Radius Series 3G before it, Monitor Audio’s updated Radius Series 4G is a speaker that consists of three different passive speaker models.

The Radius 1 4G is the smallest. It’s an ultra-compact pair of stereo speakers. Each has a two-way design that pairs a 4-inch mid/bass driver with 19mm gold dome tweeter. According to the brand, each pair can be used for “discreet AV, surround and multi-room installations.”

Next up, the Radius 3 4G. It’s a pair of high-performance, compact bookshelf speakers with a two-way design, featuring a 4.5-inch mid/bass driver and a 25mm gold dome tweeter. The company claims they can deliver “precise, high-fidelity sound for TV, film, music, gaming and multi-room applications.”

And finally, there’s the Radius On-Wall 4G, a two-way on-wall speaker that can be placed horizontally or vertically. Sold individually (and not as a stereo pair), they’re designed to be placed around a TV screen.

Big sound, compact size

Naturally, Monitor Audio has updated each speaker in its Radius 4G range with advanced acoustics and a more contemporary aesthetic.

For the midrange/bass drivers, each speaker utilizes a new RST III (Rigid Surface Technology) cone geometry, which the brand claims “further reduces breakup and resonances across the frequency range for an even more accurate, natural sound.”

Additionally, they have a completely redesigned gold dome tweeter that takes advantage of a new external magnet motor system, which Monitor Audio says is more akin to that of “a full drive unit, rather than a traditional internal puck magnet.”

Each speaker features a reworked crossover network and a cabinet with improved bracing and a revamped port design.

Of course, other than being a compact speaker range aimed at smaller listening spaces, the entire Radius Series 4G is designed to be scalable.

Monitor Audio says the versatile system is “capable of serving everything from discreet stereo listening to full multi-channel home cinema, multi-room audio, commercial installations, and near-field desktop environments.”

Additionally, Monitor Audio sells specific accessories for each speaker, including both floor and desk stands, as well as wall brackets. This way, you can place and configure each speaker however you want.
