Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY
Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY was founded in 2015 in London by Charles Jeffrey, a Glaswegian-born Central Saint Martins MA graduate who began the brand from his weekly LOVERBOY club-night at Vogue Fabrics in Dalston — a queer, costume-anchored party that doubled as the testing ground for the early collections. The brand's foundational thesis was specific: produce a club-anchored, queer-historically literate, hand-illustrated London menswear-meets-genderless vocabulary that read as the heir to the Galliano-and-McQueen British-fantasy lineage.
The LOVERBOY vocabulary settled around several specific elements: tartan separates referencing Jeffrey's Glaswegian roots, hand-knitted Aran sweaters with cartoon-creature embroidery, the brand's recurring 'Loverboy' face-graphic prints, distressed tailoring with deliberate body-modification cuts, and a colour palette that runs from saturated red and yellow to soft pastels with deliberate clash. The brand has presented at London Fashion Week since 2017 and was awarded the BFC NEWGEN designer prize and Andam Grand Prize.
The brand is independent and held by Jeffrey. Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY operates a flagship in London (Hackney, Andre Street) plus international wholesale through SSENSE, MATCHES, Dover Street Market, and a small set of carefully chosen luxury retailers. Few London menswear brands of the late 2010s have built such a coherent club-anchored queer-historical vocabulary while maintaining the show-and-runway cadence of the mainline London Fashion Week schedule.
