Drôle de Monsieur
Drôle de Monsieur was founded in 2014 in Paris by Tibault Charpentier and Tristan Porte-Boutet, two friends who began the brand from a Paris apartment as a small graphic-tee and casual-menswear line aimed at a younger Parisian customer. The brand's foundational thesis was specific: produce a casual French-male wardrobe vocabulary — the cotton sweatshirt, the boxy t-shirt, the relaxed-fit chino — at a accessible €100-€200 price tier, with a deliberately ironic French-language graphic voice that read as the heir to 1990s French casual brands like Chevignon and Naf Naf.
The Drôle de Monsieur vocabulary settled around several recurring elements: the NFPM ('Not Famous Project Mostly') logo applied to heavyweight cotton sweatshirts and tees, the brand's recurring use of 1990s-French-cinema typography and graphic references, the brand-name embroidered Slogan Logo Slogan workwear-chore jacket, oversized boxy fits, and a colour palette anchored to washed navy, ecru, sage, oxblood, and washed grey. The brand has been a consistent presence in the Paris men's fashion-week presentation calendar since 2018.
The brand is independent and held by Charpentier and Porte-Boutet. Drôle de Monsieur operates flagships in Paris (Rue de Turenne in the Marais, Faubourg Saint-Honoré), Tokyo (Shibuya), Seoul (Hannam-dong), plus international wholesale through SSENSE, MR PORTER, GR8, MATCHES, and a curated set of European and Asian streetwear specialty retailers. Few French menswear brands of the post-2015 era have built such a coherent accessible-Parisian vocabulary while remaining culturally legible.
