Goldwin was founded in 1950 in Oyabe, Toyama Prefecture by Takao Nishida as a knitwear producer. The brand pivoted toward ski apparel in the 1960s and became the technical-apparel partner of choice for Japanese national teams across Alpine skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing through the 1970s and 80s. Goldwin Inc. (the parent company) is now the licensed manufacturer of The North Face for Japan, the operator of Goldwin's own technical brand, and the owner of brands like Helly Hansen (Japan), Ellesse, and Champion (Japan). The Goldwin own-brand line — distinct from the more famous The North Face Japan license — produces high-end technical mountain apparel using the same engineering capacity that produces The North Face Purple Label and The North Face Mountain Sport Originator. The product canon includes the Goldwin Diving Skin Knit, the Mountain Touring shell line, and a deep ski / snowboard outerwear range. Goldwin Inc. is publicly listed in Tokyo. The Toyama production facilities still anchor R&D and high-end product. The Goldwin standalone stores (Tokyo Marunouchi, Sapporo, Kyoto, and a small Paris flagship) showcase the brand as a fashion-credibility venture distinct from its industrial-scale licensing business. Few Asian outdoor brands have such a quietly powerful position in the global technical ecosystem.

Archive and rare Goldwin pieces mostly circulate on the resale market. Japanese sites don't ship to China — buy via a proxy like Buyee; most Western sites ship internationally or are reachable with a US/EU forwarder.
