GR-Uniforma was founded in 2019 in Moscow by Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy as the deliberately-uniform-research-anchored revival of his earlier eponymous Gosha Rubchinskiy menswear brand (2008-2018). GR-Uniforma operates as the deliberately-archive-research and broader-cultural-uniform-anchored sub-brand programme, with the brand specifically focused on what Rubchinskiy describes as 'a deliberately-uniform-and-utilitarian-anchored Russian contemporary-luxury menswear vocabulary anchored to traditional Russian-and-broader-post-Soviet uniform-research and contemporary architectural-tailoring proportions.' The GR-Uniforma vocabulary settled around several recurring elements: deconstructed Italian-mill wool tailored separates with deliberately-Russian-uniform-aesthetic proportional construction, hand-printed silk and cotton shirts with deliberately-Cyrillic-typography and broader-post-Soviet-cultural-reference graphic-motif references, the brand's iconic GR-Uniforma technical-fabric uniform-derived outerwear programme, deconstructed denim with deliberately-Russian-uniform-aesthetic construction, and a colour palette anchored to washed-black, military-olive, oxblood, ecru, washed-charcoal, plus the brand's recurring use of saturated red, electric-blue, and the iconic post-Soviet-and-Russian-uniform-aesthetic colour combinations. The brand has presented at Paris Men's Fashion Week each season since 2020. The brand is independent and held by Rubchinskiy. GR-Uniforma operates with no permanent retail of its own, distributing through Dover Street Market, SSENSE, MR PORTER, MATCHES, GR8, the broader European luxury-streetwear specialty retailers, and a curated set of contemporary-luxury-menswear specialty retailers globally. The brand has been one of the more conceptually rigorous post-2019 Russian-anchored 'uniform-research-luxury' brands.
