Henrik Vibskov

Henrik Vibskov was founded in 2001 in Copenhagen by the Danish designer Henrik Vibskov, a Central Saint Martins MA graduate who launched the brand as a Danish-anchored menswear ready-to-wear label with a deliberately unconventional graphic-print and conceptual-installation vocabulary. The brand's foundational thesis was specific: produce a Copenhagen menswear vocabulary that read as the heir to the conceptual-art tradition of Vibskov's Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts training — fashion-as-installation-art, with the runway show treated as a multi-disciplinary conceptual performance. The Henrik Vibskov vocabulary settled around several recurring elements: large-scale digital-print and abstract-pattern menswear pieces (oversized graphic prints on cotton shirts, scarves, and outerwear), conceptual-art-installation runway shows that have become a defining feature of Copenhagen Fashion Week, sculptural collaborations with contemporary artists and architects, and a colour palette that runs from saturated abstract-painting primaries to muted Scandinavian-minimalist neutrals. The brand has been a continuous presence on Paris Men's calendar since 2005. The brand is independent and held by Vibskov. Henrik Vibskov operates a flagship retail concept at the Henrik Vibskov Boutique in Copenhagen (Krystalgade), a New York flagship at 270 Mott Street (Soho), plus international wholesale through SSENSE, MR PORTER, MATCHES, Lane Crawford, and a curated set of European and Asian conceptual-art-and-fashion retailers. Few Danish menswear brands of the post-2000 generation have built such a coherent conceptual-art-anchored fashion vocabulary while becoming a continuous presence at Paris Men's Fashion Week.
