Hummel was founded in 1923 in Hamburg, Germany by Albert Messmer as a small workshop producing handball-and-football boots specifically for the post-WWI German amateur sports clubs that were rebuilding after the war. The brand pivoted to a Danish ownership and production base in 1956 when Bernhard Weckenbrock acquired the company; the headquarters has been in Aarhus, Denmark since then, and the brand has been one of the defining Scandinavian-anchored football-and-sport-apparel brands of the post-1950 era.
