Founder

Maison Kitsuné was founded in 2002 in Paris by Gildas Loaëc (the former art director and music partner of Daft Punk) and Masaya Kuroki (a Japanese architect). The brand was conceived from the start as a triple-function operation: a fashion brand, an independent music label (Kitsuné Music, which broke artists including Hot Chip, Phoenix, La Roux, Two Door Cinema Club, and Bloc Party), and a cafe network (Café Kitsuné, with locations from Paris's Palais Royal to Tokyo, Seoul, and Manila). The fashion vocabulary is built on French sportswear archetypes filtered through a Tokyo-Paris dialogue: the iconic Fox-head logo polo, club-stripe shirts, varsity references, and a colour palette of muted brights. The brand's defining quality is the integration across cultural sectors — the music label gives the fashion brand cultural shorthand, the cafes provide tangible retail presence, and the fashion product anchors the commercial business. The Kitsuné fox-head logo, designed by Lana Pavkov, has appeared on every product since the brand's launch. Maison Kitsuné is privately held and operates standalone stores in Paris, Tokyo, Seoul, New York, Hong Kong, and at Café Kitsuné locations globally. Loaëc and Kuroki remain co-founders and creative directors. Few brands have so successfully built across the music / cafe / fashion intersection — and few have made the Paris-Tokyo cultural exchange as legible as Maison Kitsuné has done over two decades.
