Old Town Clothing was founded in 2004 in Holt, England by British designers Will and Marie Brown as a small Norfolk-based workshop specifically focused on producing hand-made British-mill-fabric work-jackets, smocks, and traditional British countryside-aesthetic menswear. The brand has been continuously operating from the same Holt workshop and storefront for over 20 years and is one of the most-rigorously continuously-committed British-craft-revival heritage menswear brands.
The Old Town Clothing vocabulary settled around several specific products: the iconic Old Town Smock work-jacket (the brand's defining product since 2004 — a hand-finished British-mill-cotton-twill or moleskin smock with the iconic traditional-British-countryside-aesthetic patch-pocket construction), various heavyweight cotton-twill work-trousers and bib-and-brace overalls, hand-stitched British-mill cotton-and-linen oxford shirts, hand-knitted British-wool sweaters, and a colour palette anchored to washed-navy, ecru, washed-cream, oxblood, military-olive, plus the brand's recurring use of natural-undyed cotton and the iconic British-countryside-aesthetic colour combinations. Production is entirely British and entirely at the Holt workshop.
The brand is independent and family-controlled by the Brown family. Old Town Clothing operates only the single Holt flagship-and-workshop (the brand has remained deliberately committed to single-location operation across 20 years) plus international wholesale through Beams Plus (the brand's defining Japanese-distribution partner since 2010), Nepenthes, Self Edge, Stag NY, Brut Clothing, S.E.H. Kelly, the broader Japanese-and-American heritage-menswear specialty network, and a small curated set of luxury-menswear specialty retailers globally. The brand has been one of the most rigorously committed post-2004 British-anchored 'authentic-craft-workwear' brands.
