OPERASPORT was founded in 2017 in Copenhagen by Danish designers Stephanie Gundelach and Awa Malina Stelter as a contemporary luxury womenswear brand specifically focused on what the founders described as 'a deliberately-Scandinavian, deliberately-Y2K-revival contemporary-luxury womenswear vocabulary anchored to deadstock-fabric production and small-batch European manufacturing.' The brand has been one of the defining post-2017 Copenhagen-anchored 'Y2K-revival-luxury-womenswear' brands. The OPERASPORT vocabulary settled around several recurring elements: deconstructed deadstock-fabric and recycled-yarn ready-to-wear with deliberately-Y2K-aesthetic graphic-print references, hand-finished deadstock-fabric tailored separates with deliberately-Y2K-revival construction, the brand's iconic OPERASPORT body-conscious knit programme, deliberately-architectural cotton-and-linen ready-to-wear, and a colour palette anchored to washed-cream, oxblood, ecru, washed-charcoal, soft-pink, plus the brand's recurring use of saturated electric-blue, butter-yellow, neon-pink, and the iconic Y2K-aesthetic colour combinations. The brand has presented at Copenhagen Fashion Week each season since 2018. The brand is independent and held by Gundelach and Stelter. OPERASPORT operates flagship retail in Copenhagen (the brand's home flagship) plus international wholesale through SSENSE, MATCHES, Net-a-Porter, the Boontheshop network in Seoul, the Webster, and a curated set of contemporary-luxury-womenswear specialty retailers globally. The brand has been one of the more quietly disciplined post-2017 Copenhagen-anchored 'sustainable-Y2K-revival-luxury' brands.
