PI
Pinks was founded in 2017 in Shanghai by Chinese designer Yifei Wang as a contemporary luxury streetwear brand specifically focused on what Wang described as 'a deliberately-Mainland-Chinese youth contemporary-luxury streetwear vocabulary anchored to deliberately-feminine and deliberately-architectural construction.' The brand has been one of the defining post-2017 Shanghai-anchored 'feminine-luxury-streetwear' brands.
The Pinks vocabulary settled around several recurring elements: heavyweight cotton tees and hoodies with the brand's iconic Pinks typography logo and deliberately-feminine graphic-design references, deconstructed denim with deliberately-feminine cut-out and architectural construction, the brand's iconic Pinks knitwear programme (hand-knitted feminine-aesthetic sweaters), deliberately-architectural cotton-and-linen ready-to-wear, and a colour palette anchored to washed-pink (the brand's defining colour — the iconic 'Pinks' washed-pink tone), oxblood, ecru, washed-charcoal, soft-yellow, plus the brand's recurring use of saturated red, electric-blue, and the iconic Mainland-Chinese-feminine-streetwear-aesthetic colour combinations.
The brand is independent and held by Wang. Pinks operates flagship retail in Shanghai (Anfu Road — the brand's home neighbourhood) plus international wholesale through SSENSE, MATCHES, Lane Crawford, the Boontheshop network in Seoul, and a curated set of contemporary-luxury-streetwear specialty retailers globally. The brand has been one of the more quietly disciplined post-2017 Shanghai-anchored 'feminine-luxury-streetwear' brands.
