Samurai Jeans

Samurai Jeans was founded in 1997 in Osaka by Toru Nogami, a former Studio D'Artisan designer who launched the brand specifically focused on producing the heaviest-weight Japanese selvedge denim possible — at a level of fabric weight (15oz, 17oz, 19oz, 21oz, and the extreme 25oz weights) that distinguished the brand from the broader Japanese-denim ecosystem of the late 1990s. The brand became one of the defining members of the 'Osaka Five' Japanese denim collective alongside Studio D'Artisan, Denime, Evisu, and Fullcount. The Samurai Jeans vocabulary settled around several specific products: the iconic Samurai S0710XX (a 19oz selvedge jean modelled on the 1944 Levi's 501 specification), the S5000VX (a 17oz variant), the S510XX (a 15oz workwear-anchored variant), the iconic Samurai shogun-warrior graphic embroidered on every jean's back pocket, various heavyweight chambray and flannel work-shirts, and the long-running Samurai Jeans × Iron Heart, Samurai Jeans × Stevenson Overall Co. collaboration capsules. Production is overwhelmingly Japanese with all denim woven on vintage shuttle-loom machinery and final construction at the Osaka workshop. The brand is independent and held by Nogami. Samurai Jeans operates a flagship retail concept in Osaka (the brand's home workshop-store) plus international wholesale through Self Edge (the long-running US Japanese-denim specialty retailer), Iron Heart UK, Cultizm, Blue Owl Workshop, Stag NY, Brut Clothing, and a curated set of heritage-menswear specialty retailers globally.
