Stray Rats

Stray Rats was founded in 2007 in Miami by skater-and-designer Julian Consuegra as a deliberately-DIY-skate-and-punk-aesthetic streetwear brand specifically focused on what Consuegra described as 'a deliberately-Florida-skate-and-hardcore-music-aesthetic streetwear vocabulary anchored to early-2000s Miami skate-and-hardcore-music cultural references.' The brand has been one of the defining post-2007 American-anchored 'skate-and-hardcore-music-streetwear' brands. The Stray Rats vocabulary settled around several recurring elements: heavyweight cotton tees and hoodies with deliberately-DIY-graphic-design references (the brand has been continuously focused on graphic-design references to hardcore-punk-and-1990s-skate culture), deconstructed denim and workwear-derived skate trousers, the brand's iconic Stray Rats Tab graphic programme, the long-running Stray Rats × Carhartt WIP, Stray Rats × Reebok, Stray Rats × New Balance, and Stray Rats × Stüssy collaboration capsules, and a colour palette anchored to washed-black, washed-navy, ecru, oxblood, plus the brand's recurring use of saturated red, electric-blue, butter-yellow, and the iconic Miami-skate-and-hardcore-music-aesthetic accent combinations. The brand is independent and held by Consuegra. Stray Rats operates a flagship retail concept in Miami (the brand's home neighbourhood) plus international wholesale through Dover Street Market, HBX, Patta, Slam Jam Milan, the broader US-and-European streetwear specialty distribution network, and a substantial Japanese streetwear-specialty distribution. The brand has been one of the defining post-2007 American-anchored 'authentic-skate-and-hardcore-music-streetwear' brands.
