SYSTEM Studios was founded in 2015 in Seoul by Korean fashion-and-cultural collective as a contemporary luxury menswear-and-womenswear brand specifically focused on what the founders described as 'a deliberately-Korean cultural-collective contemporary-luxury vocabulary anchored to deliberately-minimalist architectural-tailoring and contemporary K-fashion-aesthetic positioning.' The brand has been one of the defining post-2015 Korean-anchored contemporary-luxury brands. The SYSTEM Studios vocabulary settled around several recurring elements: deconstructed cotton-and-wool tailored separates with deliberately-minimalist Korean-architectural proportional construction, hand-printed silk and cotton shirts with deliberately-minimalist K-fashion-aesthetic graphic-motif references, the brand's iconic SYSTEM ready-to-wear programme (deliberately-architectural cotton-and-linen ready-to-wear), various contemporary-luxury accessory and footwear variations, and a colour palette anchored to washed-black, oxblood, ecru, washed-charcoal, soft-pink, washed-cream, plus the brand's recurring use of saturated red, electric-blue, and the iconic K-fashion-architectural aesthetic colour combinations. The brand is owned by Handsome Corporation (the Korean luxury-fashion conglomerate that also operates Time, Mine, MARC JACOBS Korea, and various other K-fashion-distribution brands). SYSTEM Studios operates approximately 30 retail flagship stores across South Korea — anchored to Seoul (Hannam-dong, Cheongdam-dong, Apgujeong), Busan, plus international wholesale through SSENSE, MATCHES, Lane Crawford, the Boontheshop network in Seoul, and a curated set of contemporary-K-fashion-luxury specialty retailers globally. The brand has been one of the most visible post-2015 Korean-anchored 'K-fashion-architectural-luxury' brands.
