Tracksmith
Tracksmith was founded in 2014 in Boston by Matt Taylor and Luke Scheybeler (the latter a co-founder of the British cycling brand Rapha). The brand's foundational thesis was specific: produce premium running apparel anchored to the New England running tradition — the Boston-to-Hopkinton marathon idea, the Ivy-League cross-country aesthetic, the J.D. Salinger-adjacent literary sensibility — at a price tier well above mainstream running brands.
The Tracksmith vocabulary settled around several specific products: the Harrier longsleeve running tee (in Italian-milled merino-tech blend), the Van Cortlandt singlet, the Inverno tights, the No Days Off cap, and a range of cotton-faced sweatpants and crewnecks that traded on the 'collegiate runner-after-practice' aesthetic. The brand's bi-annual print Meter magazine and the Trackhouse retail concept in Boston anchored a particular community-driven brand language.
Tracksmith is independent and held by the founders plus several US venture investors. The brand operates Trackhouse flagships in Boston (Newbury Street), New York (Soho), London (Marylebone), plus seasonal pop-ups in Hopkinton during marathon week and at running events. The brand has been one of the most disciplined examples of how to build a niche premium running brand against the Nike-Adidas-On wholesale-distribution paradigm.
