After a snowboarding trip to Tahoe, Richard 'Wooly' Woolcott and Tucker Hall start Volcom in Costa Mesa, California, as a 'youth against establishment' boardsports brand.

IPO on NASDAQ
Volcom becomes the first action-sports brand to IPO on the NASDAQ, listed under ticker 'VLCM'.

Acquired by PPR (Kering)
French luxury group PPR (now Kering) acquires Volcom for around US$608 million, briefly making it a stablemate of Gucci and Saint Laurent.

Authentic Brands Group acquires Volcom
Kering sells Volcom to brand management group Authentic Brands Group, refocusing the label on action-sports authenticity.
