Founded in 2011 by Chiapas-born designer Francisco Cancino, Yakampot takes its name from the Tzotzil expression meaning 'the place where water is born,' referring to a community in San Juan Chamula. The Mexico City house collaborates with indigenous artisans on hand-loomed and embroidered textiles, weaving them into refined, contemporary silhouettes for women who reject folkloric clichés. Cancino won Vogue's 'Who's on Next' in 2014 and led Yakampot's creative direction through 2019, after which a new design team continued the brand's mission of reframing Mexican craft as global luxury.
