Can a Cult-Favorite Brand Topple Yeti with a More Affordable Adventure Duffle?

Debuted in 2017, Yeti’s Panga remains one of the brand’s most rugged and capable bags. Unfortunately, despite being nearly a decade old, it’s also still pretty damn expensive.

But that’s precisely what makes Aether’s Excursion Duffle Bag 60L so enticing. It can do just about everything Yeti’s bag can do (and, in one particular case, even more), but at a fraction of the price.

Like the Yeti Panga, the Aether Excursion is an entirely waterproof duffel bag. It has a seam-sealed construction and a special rolltop closure that ensures no moisture can get in, even if you’re caught in a deluge or dunk it underwater.

There are some significant differences between the two packs, however. For instance, the Aether bag is actually 10 liters larger than the base model Panga. (It’s worth noting that the Panga comes in three sizes: 50L, 75L and 100L, but each size increase ups the price by $25 apiece).

Where the Yeti has an edge is in its carry styles. While the Aether has suitcase-style handles and a shoulder strap, the Panga also converts into a backpack. However, that convenience comes at a cost.

The Ather is technically more limited in carry capacity, but it also costs $75 less than Yeti’s smallest Panga. So it’ll be up to you to decide whether those backpack straps are worth the extra investment.

The Yeti comparison aside, this Aether duffel is an exceptional adventure bag. It’s built from a combination of 70 percent PVC and 30 percent polyester.

Not only does that make the bag completely waterproof (when closed), but it also makes it incredibly rugged and durable, as well. In fact, it is resistant to cuts, scrapes, abrasions, punctures and more.

Even the straps and hardware are tough. That includes a welded #8 Aether-branded Aquaguard Vislon zipper, d-rings and webbing attachments (for added versatility), thick nylon webbing straps and more.

And it’s not just a loose sack, either. Inside the velcro-closure main compartment, you’ll find an additional five internal pockets for more organization and storage. Put plainly, this bag isn’t just formidable outside; it’s formidable inside, too.

That makes for an incredibly dependable travel bag, even in disagreeable weather.
