
CLOT was founded in 2003 in Hong Kong by Edison Chen (the actor, producer, and DJ better known in mainland China as 陈冠希) and Kevin Poon as a streetwear platform aimed specifically at the Hong Kong, Greater China, and global Chinese-diaspora youth conversation. The brand's foundational thesis was bilingual and culturally specific: produce Chinese-iconographic streetwear (the silk royale graphics, the dragon-print panel tees, the qipao-style mandarin-collar pieces) that could be read coherently inside both the Tokyo-NY-LA streetwear conversation and the Hong Kong-Beijing-Shanghai context.
The CLOT vocabulary settled around several specific products: the Silk Royale all-over silk tee (a signature since 2006), the JUICE-store T-shirt program, the Nike Air Max 1 Kiss of Death collaboration (2006, widely regarded as one of the most-collected Air Max collabs), and the ongoing CLOT × fragment design × MEDICOM collaborations through Hiroshi Fujiwara's networks. The JUICE retail concept (launched 2004, now in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taipei, Beijing, Los Angeles, San Francisco) is operated by the same group.
CLOT is independent and held by Chen and Poon. The brand operates JUICE flagships in Hong Kong (Tsim Sha Tsui), Shanghai (Anfu Road, Xintiandi), Beijing, Taipei, Los Angeles (Fairfax), and San Francisco. The brand has been a defining example of how Hong Kong-anchored Greater Chinese streetwear can build the same cultural altitude as the Tokyo or NY equivalents while remaining recognisably Chinese.
