Feng Chen Wang
Feng Chen Wang was founded in 2015 in London by Feng Chen Wang, a Royal College of Art MA graduate from Fujian province, China, after her MA graduation show was acquired in its entirety by Lane Crawford and her debut commercial collection was picked up by Dover Street Market. The brand's foundational thesis was specific: produce a menswear vocabulary that drew explicitly on Chinese craft and textile traditions (sashiko-adjacent quilting, fish-scale embroidery, traditional dyeing techniques) while building on the deconstruction and reconstruction logic of contemporary European menswear. The Feng Chen Wang vocabulary settled around several recurring elements: hand-quilted patchwork outerwear (the brand's signature 'double' construction that combines two complete garments into one deconstructed piece), Mandarin-collar references in unexpected fabrics, sashiko-derived hand-stitching across denim and cotton, and a colour palette anchored to deep indigo, washed olive, black, and the brand's recurring use of jade-green and saffron. The brand presents on the London Men's calendar each season and has been a continuous LVMH Prize semi-finalist since 2018. The brand is independent and held by Feng Chen Wang. The label operates from London with no permanent retail of its own, distributing through SSENSE, MATCHES, Dover Street Market, Lane Crawford, GR8, and a curated set of European and Asian luxury department stores. The brand has done collaborations with Levi's, Converse, On Running, and several Chinese-domestic-market specialty retailers. Few Chinese-heritage designers of the post-2015 generation have built such a culturally specific Chinese-craft-anchored vocabulary while operating from inside the London fashion-week system.
