S.S.Daley was founded in 2020 in London by British designer Steven Stokey-Daley as a contemporary menswear ready-to-wear label specifically focused on what Stokey-Daley described as 'British-eccentric heritage-meets-romantic-academic-aesthetic menswear.' The brand's foundational thesis was specific: produce a contemporary menswear vocabulary that drew explicitly on the visual culture of British upper-class country pursuits, Brideshead-Revisited Oxbridge academic aesthetic, and the deliberately-eccentric British-craft tradition of hand-painted and hand-embroidered textile decoration. The S.S.Daley vocabulary settled around several recurring elements: hand-painted silk shirts referencing pastoral British countryside motifs (the brand's defining product category), hand-embroidered cotton button-downs with traditional British-craft motif references, soft-shouldered wool tailored separates in deliberately understated colour combinations, the brand's iconic 'Pirate Trouser' and 'Tudor Shirt' silhouettes with deliberately-romantic-historical proportions, and a colour palette anchored to washed-cream, oxblood, sage, washed-pink, ecru, and the brand's recurring use of saturated red and bottle-green.
