Stefan Cooke was founded in 2017 in London by British designers Stefan Cooke and Jake Burt as a contemporary menswear ready-to-wear brand specifically focused on what the founders described as 'deconstruction-anchored experimental British menswear.' The brand's foundational thesis was specific and conceptually rigorous: produce a contemporary menswear vocabulary that drew explicitly on deliberately-experimental fabric-and-construction proposition (the brand's iconic 'slashed' surface treatments where hand-cut slashes reveal underlayer fabrics in shifting colour combinations), rebuilt at the contemporary luxury price tier. The Stefan Cooke vocabulary settled around several recurring elements: the brand's iconic slashed-construction technique applied to cotton shirts, denim, leather jackets, and knitwear (where surface fabric is hand-cut to reveal layered underfabric in deliberately-contrasting colour combinations), deconstructed Italian-mill wool tailoring with deliberate-asymmetric proportional construction, hand-printed silk shirts with deliberately-conceptual graphic motifs, and a colour palette anchored to washed-black, washed-navy, oxblood, ecru, plus the brand's recurring use of saturated red, electric-blue, and contrasting-underlayer-fabric combinations.
